Following is a summary of the action taken by the Board: 1. Eastern High School "Evening of Memories." The Board approved the grant for $2,000, but asked who would host the program, what clubs from the school and what students would be involved. 2. Parkdale/Sycamore Park Neighborhood Watch. The Board approved the grant for $325 for a map painted on the school playground. The Board asked how the Watch would involve neighborhood participants in the project. 3. Moores Park and Moores Park School kindergarten preparedness program. The Board approved $1,000 for the program, but asked the applicants how they would select children and parents for the program to assure that they would be families either not involved in other programs or in need of this program. 4. Reo Elementary School parent computer training program. The Board did not approve the staff costs for the program, but did approve $150 for the materials for the program. The Board suggested several contacts which Reo might make to find staffing for the program. 5. Bingham Elementary and ABC Neighborhood Carnival proposal. The Board approved $600 toward the Carnival which is half of the cost of the Carnival. The Board asked that the applicants raise the remaining funds from other organizations in the neighborhood. 6. We Care Neighborhood Watch reading program for Bingham students. The Board supported the concept of the program but asked for more detail on the costs before they would make a commitment for funding. 7. Grand River School PTA Cinco de Mayo Celebration. The Board did not fund this proposal because it was concerned that the School celebration would be in conflict with the Cristo Rey Celebration. The Board asked that staff (David Wiener) discuss their concerns with the applicants and ask them to resubmit their application with a clarification of their proposal for a school-based celebration. S. Allen Neighborhood Center Eastside Youth Service Corp. Although the Board supported the concept of the proposal it did not fund it because there were no funds left for the First Ward. The Board suggested that Allen Center resubmit its proposal during the regular grant cycle. 9. Friends of Durant Park children's learning program. The Board supported the Friend's proposal for purchasing books about how children can enjoy a park. The grant will be for $177. The total amount funded is $4,651. The Board encouraged more School - Neighborhood Partnership grants from Wards 2,3 and 4 during the regular grant cycle.
