Board of Police Commissioners Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
Foster Community Center
200 Foster Ave., Lansing, MI 48912
The Board of Police Commissioners met in regular session and the meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by
Chair Jones.
Present: Commissioner Members: Brewster, Cotton, Farhat, Jones, Milton, Omar, and Watkins. Also present:
Chief Robert Backus, Deputy City Attorney Lisa Hagen-Lawrence, Assistant City Attorney Patrick Abood, and Ruth
Grant
Excused Absence: Vice Chair Brewster placed a motion to excuse the absence of Commissioner Bitely from this
meeting; seconded by Commissioner Milton.
By Vote: Yeas: 7
Nays: 0
Public Attendees: 2
Roll call was taken and quorum was present.
Pledge of Allegiance: Lead by Chair Jones.
Public Comment on Agenda Items: None.
Additions To The Agenda:
Approval Of Agenda: Chair Jones moved to approve the agenda. Commissioner Brewster made the motion to approve
Commissioner Farhat seconding the motion.
Consent Agenda: Chair Jones moved for approval of agenda items:
a) A motion was placed by Vice Chair Brewster to include the Staff Services Monthly Department Report for July,
seconded by Commissioner Farhat.
b) Approval of Meeting Minutes: July 15, 2025
c) Approval of July Departmental Reports including Staff Services July Report.
Chair Jones moved to approve the minutes. Commissioners Brewster made the motion with Commissioner Farhat
seconding the motion.
