Board of Police Commissioners Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
Lansing Police Department – Headquarters
120 W. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, MI 48933
The Board of Police Commissioners met in regular session and the meeting was called to order at 5:31 p.m. by
Chair Jones.
Present: Commissioner Members: Bitely, Brewster, Cotton, Farhat, Jones, and Watkins. Also present: Chief Robert
Backus, Assistant City Attorney Matt Staples, CI A’Keydra Abrams and Ruth Grant.
Excused Absence: Chair Jones placed a motion to excuse the absence of Commissioner Milton from this meeting;
seconded by Commissioners Brewster and Farhat.
By Vote: Yeas: 6
Nays: 0
Unexcused Absence: Commissioner Omar.
Public Attendees: 1
Roll call was taken and quorum was present.
Pledge of Allegiance: Lead by Chair Jones.
Public Comment on Agenda Items: None.
Additions To The Agenda: None.
Approval Of Agenda: Chair Jones moved to approve the agenda. Commissioner Watkins made the motion to approve
Commissioner Bitely seconding the motion.
Consent Agenda: Chair Jones moved for approval of agenda items:
a) Approval of Meeting Minutes: June 17, 2025
b) Approval of May and June 2025 Departmental Reports
Chair Jones moved to approve the minutes. Commissioners Bitely and Watkins made the motion with Commissioner
Farhat seconding the motion.
