HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.9.25 Park Board MinutesPARK BOARD MEETING MINUTES FOSTER COMMUNITY CENTER Wednesday July, 9th, 2025 BOARD MEMBERS: Mike Dombrowski, Kimberly Whitfield, Nate Scramlin, Isaac Francisco, Joan Lenhard, Tirstan Walters, Rayvnne Gilmore CALL TO ORDER: 6:33 P.M. Foster Community Center I. ADDITIONS/DELETIONS TO THE AGENDA Adding new business C. Walters moved to accept the addition, Scramlin seconded, passed unanimously II. BOARD MEETING MINUTES A. June 11th, 2025 Walters moved to accept the minutes, Lenhard seconded, passed unanimously III. NEW BUSINESS A. Lansing Parks Grant Match Program: Musical Instrumental Flowers – Potter Park Zoological Society- Referred back to the applicant with questions about the application. B. School/Park playground sites – Approximately 13 school playgrounds share a border with a park. The school district is putting in fences around the playgrounds on school property. C. Attendance Policy for the Park Board- Rick Kibbey called the director and informed him that he will be moving out of Ward 2 in the City of Lansing. The Park Board would like to recognize Rick Kibbey’s extraordinary service to the people of the City of Lansing on this and many other boards. Scramlin moved to remove Rick Kibbey due to his move and the attendance policy of our board. Francisco seconded the motion. Motion passed 5-1. IV. OLD BUSINESS A. Parks 5-Year Master Plan- Reviewed a draft of the City of Lansing Parks and Recreation Plan Goals and Objectives. B. 609 – 609 N Verlinden – Adjacent to Osborn Park – Walters will reach out to the Westside Neighborhood Association and Gilmore will reach out to the Old Oakland Neighborhood Association to get feedback about a possible acquisition of this parcel for a new park. V. UPDATES A. The new Fit Lot at Benjamin Davis Park had a ribbon cutting on July 9th. During last year the current fit lots have been visited over 41,000 times. B. The gym floor at Schmidt was being renovated so the Summer Camp at Schmidt this year was moved to Atwood. Atwood then started having renovations so the remainder of that camp will be held back at Schmidt. C. The Director will be meeting with the Ingham County Parks Commission at Rotary Park on July 14th. D. There is a new shoot site for fireworks from the Shiawassee Street Bridge and the best viewing area is at the Adado Riverfront Park. E. Concerts in the Park are ongoing on Wednesdays and have been well attended. F. Marshall Basketball Court: Bids are coming in at double what the engineering estimate was, the director is reaching back out to the contractors to get more information. G. INFORMATION VIII. REMARKS BY BOARD MEMBERS Lenhard went by Clifford Park and the pickleball courts were very well attended. Gilmore asked about kayak rentals in the city and discussed different options around the town. Scramlin notified the director of the lack of lighting in the park near parking lot in Old Town. The director confirmed that there are improvements currently being made. There has been some good feedback about St Joseph Park but also there has been some request for a bench at St Joseph Walters talked about a Lime Scooter found in Bankroft Park. Dombrowski let the director know about a request by the Reotown Neighborhood. IX. STATEMENTS OF CITIZENS All meetings of the Park Board shall be open to the public. Those in attendance shall have the opportunity to speak on any issue related to parks and recreation services not otherwise on the agenda at the end of the meeting and may speak on any agenda issue during the meeting after park board members have had an opportunity to discuss the issue or prior to the board voting on the issue. The President may impose a time limit on public comments. Dawn Glossup: Talked about the new fences at the playgrounds and wanted to help with interacting with the Westside Neighborhood Association.
