HomeMy WebLinkAbout3.12.25 Park Board MinutesPARK BOARD MEETING MINUTES FOSTER COMMUNITY CENTER WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 2025 BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Mike Dombrowski, Rick Kibbey, Kimberly Whitfield, Nate Scramlin, Isaac Francisco, Tirstan Walters, BOARD MEMBERS EXCUSED: Rayvnne Gilmore, Joan Lenhard CALLTO ORDER: 6:33 P.M. Foster Community Center I. ADDITIONS/DELETIONS TO THE AGENDA Added D in new business and added G in Old Business. Walters moved, Whitfield seconded, passed unanimously. II. BOARD MEETING MINUTES A. February 12, 2025 Walters moved, Kibbey seconded, passed unanimously. III. NEW BUSINESS A. Miriam Garcia - pickleball presentation, Q&A Many pickleball courts in the area. Schedules will be posted on May 1St for Open Play. Discussed some proposed improvements to the new courts at Clifford Park. Very excited about the new courts at Clifford Park. The department is looking into adding programming. There are volunteers available and willing to teach pickleball. B. Inline Link Presentation - Recently partnered with MSU Spartan Innovation. Gave a demonstration of the Tubman Charging Station which is solar powered and has the capabilities to charge phones and have Al driven safety monitoring. InLineLink also has a private data network available. On May 1 st they will be hosting a health and wellness summit. C. Park MiRage Postcard -An example of a park millage postcard was presented by the director. D. Fenner Nature Grant Match, Gabriel Biber - Walters Moved, Whitfield Seconded, passed unanimously to fund up to $5000. E. Michigan Waterways Stewards Grant Application - Dombrowski will be reaching out to Mike Stout for an additional information regarding the application F. Park Grants Process Following Approval - Walters moved to extend the Park Grants application period to be indefinite and the project must be completed within one year of the project being approved. Kibbey seconded. Passed unanimously. G. Grant Application Scott Woods - The director believes that the department can provide bike loops to this park. Walters moved, Whitfield seconded the approval of the application up to the requested amount unless the bike loops are available then Less that amount. Passed Unanimously. IV. OLD BUSINESS A. Parks 5 -Year Master Plan B. CIP Project FY26 -The park board approved list was submitted to the mayor with the removal of the fit lot cover and the Gier BMX Track and added the resurfacing of Marscott. C. Lansing River Trail @ US -127/496 Junction The River Trail will be closed for a proposed 4 weeks for construction starting March 16th D. Playgrounds - Kroger is donating a small play structure which will be placed in Ingham Park. Wilson, Georgetown, and St Joseph will have new structures ordered this year. V. UPDATES A. Parks Director Administrative Assistant Update - Dequan Clay has been selected as the new Administrative Assistant. B. Park Map Update - A paper map is being prepared that will highlight the areas of the parks and the river trail. VI. CORRESPONDENCE A. GPR Report North Cemetery VII. INFORMATION 0 VIII. REMARKS BY BOARD MEMBERS Walters- Ore Creek Archery had 2 silver medals at the Regionals IX. STATEMENTS OF CITIZENS All meetings of the Park Board shall be open to the public. Those in attendance shall have the opportunity to speak on any issue related to parks and recreation services not otherwise on the agenda at the end of the meeting and may speak on any agenda issue during the meeting after park board members have had an opportunity to discuss the issue or prior to the board voting on the issue. The President may impose a time limit on public comments. Mike Marriott — Sat May 3rd 2PM to 5PM Derby Day— Churchill Downs Community Association will be hosting a Bridgerton Style Outdoor Ball at the pavilion in Wainwright Park. Everyone is encouraged to an hors `d ouvre or a desert. Paul Kolar From the Moores Neighborhood Association thanked the board for the recommendation of the resurface of the courts at Moores Park Dave Kreis Spoke about the benefits of the Tubman Charging Stations along the river trail for safety monitoring and giving information Don Dean spoke about an idea for a rain garden at Bankroft Park.
