Chair Defrees called the meeting to order at 1:05
Chair Defrees suggested starting with “Other Business” first, to hear a presentation
from Standard Communities on a new housing rehab project.
Other Business:
Chair Defrees invited Aaron Thomos, a Senior representative from Standard
Communities, to today’s meeting. Standard Communities is a housing real estate,
and redevelopment organization. Aaron presented on Standard Communities'
new housing rehab project on the southwest side of Lansing. Aaron explained his
organization’s mission and purpose through purchasing and rehabbing existing
housing complexes.
After the presentation, the conversation turned to the new BWL project along the
corridor. Chair Defrees requested that we invite a BWL representative to the next
meeting to discuss the project further
After wrapping up “Other Business”, Chair Defrees moved to return to the original
order of the agenda.

Member Schmidgall motioned to approve the slate of minutes from May.
MOTION: Schmidgall, Seconded: Owsley

Updates on SW Thrive:
Paul (SWAG) provided a brief update on the status of the participants’ grants.
Updates on Corridor Projects:
a. Marketing Effort
Washington updated the group on the kickoff meeting with S. MLK’s new
marketing firm.
b. Community Cleanup
The board decided to reschedule the community cleanup.
c. Bus Shelter
Washington informed the group that the selected artist for the bus shelter project
has been paid. She is working with CATA and Michigan Imaging to fabricate and
install the artwork.
