The Honorable David Hollister
124 W. Michigan Ave.
Lansing, MI 48933
Dear Mayor Hollister:
As Vice Chairman of the Mechanical Board, I wish to submit the following report for this past
calendar year:
* Fiscal year 96/97 the Mechanical Division performed 5,379 inspections. A request was
submitted to the Building Safety Manager and Mr. Sykes to have the part time position be
updated to a full time position due to the extremely high number of inspections performed.
* The Mechanical Board approved of the new Chief Mechanical Inspector Gary Biddinger,
whom was hired to replace the retired position held by Mr. Ralph Goff. Mr. Biddinger has taken
a very active part in updating the codes. He also coordinated next years codes to provide
uniformity with the outlying areas and State Mechanical Codes.
* The Mechanical Board took an active part in writing letters of support and non-support of Bills
presented at the state level regarding mechanical issues.
* Our Board also worked on the ordinance changes with the Chief Inspector, and have in our
opinion developed an ordinance that should give additional assurances of safety to our Lansing
citizens.
* The Mechanical Board addressed one appeal for the calendar year.
* The Mechanical Board reluctantly accepted the resignation of Christopher Swope, Chairman
of the Board, as he moved outside the city limits.
* Mr. Brian George Shields was moved to a permanent Mechanical Inspector position, and
continues to show trade expertise and communication skills which serve the city well.
Sincerely,
vaj
William F. Krejcik
Vice Chairman of the Mechanical Board
