POLICY STATMENT
MECHANICAL
MANUFACTURER VENT TABLES
On October 13, 1992, the City of. Lansing Mechanical Board unanimously voted
to recommend that the City of Lansing, Building Safety Division, Mechanical
Section implement use of vent tables supplied by furnace manufacturer's.
These tables have been developed by the Gas Research Institute and accepted
by the American Gas Association Laboratories. These tables have been well done
and unless unusual circumstances arise they should be an acceptable alternative
sizing method for venting gas utilizing equipment.
In support of this Section 105 states:
"The building official may authorize• any alternate, provided the
building official finds the proposed design is satisfactory for the
intended use and complies with the provisions of this code and that
the material, method or work offered is, for the purpose intended,
at least equivalent to that prescribed by this code in suitability,
strength, effectiveness, fire resistance, durability and safety."
Therefore, the City of Lansing, Building Safety Division, Mechanical
Section will use the venting tables supplied by the manufacturer for use as a
sizing method for vents and vent connectors.
