HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997 Election Commission MinutesCity of Lansing - Election Commission Minutes of Meeting � 9th Floor Conference Room August 6, 1997 PRESENT: Marilynn Slade, Dave Tijerina, Jim Smiertka ABSENT: None OTHERS PRESENT: Lester Stone, Lewis Bozak, Lloyd Teets, Bob Alim-Young Meeting was called to order by Chairperson Slade at 3:00 P.M. Public Comments Lester Stone stated that he would like to have the record show that their group is very appreciative of the citizens who signed these petitions. Lewis Bozak stated that he was born and raised on the North side of Lansing in the Ballard Street area and it was a pleasure for him to be able to go back to this neighborhood and see the residents after all these years. Lloyd Teets said that he was speechless. New Business Chairperson Slade stated that the purpose of this meeting is to draw a random beginning number for use in the canvass of petitions filed by the Committee for a Citizen Review Board on August 4, 1997. Lester Stone drew the random number of "8" which will be used in the canvass procedure. Chairperson Slade and Bob Alim-Young, Election Co-ordinator for the Clerk's Office, then reviewed the procedure that will be utilized for the canvass of these petitions. Chairperson Slade stated that the number of valid signatures that will be required to certify the petition is 4,271 based upon 85,418 registered voters as of 7/31/97.
