1. Call to Order – Establish Quorum
1.1. Present: Barbara Lawrence (arrives 5:36),
Gina Nelson, Steve Purchase, Jon Scott,

5.1. Admin. Specialist Overfelt shares Memorial Day Event at the Mt. Hope Cemetery on
Saturday 5/26
6. Comments from Chair
6.1. The Chair met with the Charter Commission along with Commissioner Scott to
discuss how Fire Chief’s are confirmed as well as wider rules for charter,
discussion on dates, annual report, budget approval, letter writing, and clarity on
rules for boards. They also encouraged the commission to include
EMS/Ambulance services provided by the city in the charter.
6.2. Chair Purchase will be chair for three years in July, and elections will need to be
held before then.

8. Fire Administration Report – Chief Sturdivant
8.1. Budget Presentation in April went well
8.2. Officers meetings in early May had some great conversations and feedback. Chief
solicited feedback on administrative work.
8.3. LFD is looking to conduct deep dives on processes to make sure they are updated
and accurate to the jobs as they are now. For example, logistics was overhauled
from the forensic analysis. Chief is looking to do this with finance and then training.

8.4. LFD is considering an ALS/BLS (advanced life support/basic life support) model for
ambulances. The city council has also signaled that additional FTE’s are
forthcoming but we are still unsure of where the funding will come from.
8.5. LFD is partnering with MSU to interpret data for additional staffing, call volume, etc.
8.6. Commissioner Willis, Commissioner Nelson, and Chair Purchase discuss with
Chief Sturdivant on council regarding additional FTE, how to discuss needs with the
mayors office, and the new training site.
8.7. Chief Sturdivant shares that LFD is withdrawing from the mutual aid agreement
with Dewitt via certified letter. This is to keep Lansing units closer to Lansing.
No other mutual aid agreements are being considered for termination as they are
more mutually beneficial.

12.1. Vice Chair Lawrence attended community event May 7th by request. 15
people were in attendance including one council member. She updated the group
on Station 2and 9, spoke on mutual aid agreements and the annual report. She
also shared some resources provided by Fire Inspecter Mansberger and Admin.
