RE: 1997 Electrical Board Evaluation
As Chairman of the Electrical Board, I would like to report the following:
This report is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Board and analyze the status and priorities for
services and activities of the agency it advises.
The Electrical Board continued its efforts to advise homeowners, developers and contractors on
new standards and procedures required by City Ordinance and the National Electrical Code.
Attendance:
Joseph Peters 10
Howard Lutz 10

John Morris 4
The Board would like to commend Mr. White and Mr. Ott for their continued work in making
sure the electrical installations are completed in a safe manner and meet all code requirements.
There was no Electrical Board meeting held in February 1997 due to the moving of the
Department of Planning and Neighborhood Development to 316 N. Capitol Avenue.

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. by Chairman Joe Peters. The minutes of August 19, 1997,
were read and approved on a motion by Mr. Morris, seconded by Mr. Lutz. There was no meeting held in
the month of September because of a lack of a quorum.
Homeowner Permits
There were no homeowners applying for electrical permits.
Old Business
None.
New Business
Mr. Peters stated that he would not be able to attend the November 18, 1997, meeting due to deer season.
All other members are planning to attend.
Meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. by Chairman Joe Peters. The minutes of July 15, 1997,
were read and approved. A motion was made by the Mr. Peters and seconded by Mr. Lutz. Motion carried.
Homeowner Permits
There were no homeowners applying for electrical permits.
Old Business
None.
New Business
The Electrical Board, after having a discussion on our electrical permit fee schedule, approved an
administrative change to this document for proper price listing.
The Electrical Board also discussed a question posed by our contractor representative, Mr. John Morris,
regarding the rehab projects and whether the City was going to be willing to pay to bring these old
properties in line with new code compliance (i.e. new/old dryer and range circuit wiring).
The Electrical Board also discussed the new service equipment that is going into the Cooley Law School
high-rise building.
The Board approved an exception to the 1996 Code Rules.
Meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m.

The Electrical Board evaluated and investigated two new products that have come into the market in
recent times.
One of these products is a low voltage computer cable that is used to connect zones valves for water
heaters located above ceilings.
The other product was a transient voltage and surge suppressor manufactured by the Ditek Company.
This equipment is primarily used in residential property to protect the electrical system(s) from electrical
spikes created due to the use of computers.
