David Hollister , Council President Benavides and Council Members City of Lansing 9th Floor , City Hall Lansing , Mi . 48933 RE : 1994 Electrical Board Evaluation Dear Mayor , Council President and Members : As Chairman of the Electrical Board , I would like to report the following : ATTENDANCE MEETINGS ATTENDED Joseph Peters 10 Howard Lutz 9 Walt Smiley 6 John Morris 6 Paul Todd 5 The Electrical Board continues its efforts to advise homeowners , developers and contractors on new standards and procedures required by City ordinance and the National Electrical Code . The Board also continued its dedication to safe electrical installations along with evaluating many wiring systems and materials . The Board would like to commend Mr . White , Mr . There are no minutes. Thank you for your patience. /kw OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS of the ELECTRICAL BOARD DECEMBER 20, 1994 Members Present : Joe Peters, Howard Lutz Members Absent: Paul Todd, John Morris, Walt Smiley Staff Present: James White There was no official meeting held because there was not a quorum present to do business ( 3 members required. ) However, a home-owner, Mr. Leo Savoil of 707 N. Magnolia St . made application for an electrical permit to install a 100 amp service at the before mentioned address . The Electrical Board looked at all documents for proper code compliance. New Business The Chairman, Mr. Peters, stated that the 1994 Board Evaluation is forth coming. The Electrical Board still plans to meet with other City boards to develop a relationship and a better understanding of all building safety activities . THE ELECTRICAL BOARD MEETING FOR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 1994, HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO THE LACK OF A QORUM. THIS MEETING WILL BE RESCHEDULED TO TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 1994, AT 7:00 P.M. Motion carried. There were no homeowners seeking permits for electrical work. The Electrical Board did however, discuss the possibility of getting with other Boards (ie . plumbing, mechanical) and having a general meeting to discuss policy issues, that affect the City. There was no old business . I . annual seminar regarding Public Act 54 (Registration and Training Act) . The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. A motion was made by Mr. Peters and seconded by Mr. Morris . Motion Carried. HOMEOWNER PERMITS Mr. William L. Dods of 5845 Joshua St. made application for an electrical permit to install a 100 amp service at the above address . The Electrical Board viewed all plans and sketches for proper code compliance. A motion was made by Mr. Peters and seconded by Mr. Morris . Motion carried. OLD BUSINESS The Electrical Board again looked at the newly revised draft of the Electrical Ordinance. Mr. Lutz and Mr. Morris had not previously reviewed the draft and had some comments in regards to it. NEW BUSINESS The Electrical Board had a lengthy discussion on Hospital Code( s ) and standards (N. F.P.A. 99 ) along with their effects on the Electrical Industry and code compliance in general . Howard Lutz was present and should be one the list of Members Present. A motion was made by Mr. Smiley and seconded by Mr. Peters . Motion Carried. HOMEOWNER PERMITS There were no homeowners requesting permits . OLD BUSINESS The Electrical Board again discussed the proposed move by the Building Safety Office. NEW BUSINESS The Electrical Board viewed and investigated a new electrical product called Carlon P&C Flex to see whether this product was tested, listed and approved by U.L. and whether or not this product is conducive to the Michigan area . The Electrical Board also read the entire newly drafted proposed electrical ordinance. The Electrical Board looked at consistent language regarding the State of Michigan Electrical Law (P .A. 217 ) and the City Charter. However, the Chairman stated that there is some concern on the part of the board regarding some of the language. The minutes of the April 1994 , meeting were read and approved. A motion was made by Mr. Morris and seconded by Mr. Lutz, motion carried. HOME OWNER PERMITS Mr. Fred Hagan of 427 Morris River Dr. made application for an electrical permit to install a 150 amp service. The Board thoroughly examined all plans and sketches for code compliance. A motion was made by Mr. Todd and seconded by Mr. Lutz, motion carried. Mr. Ralph Baker of 105 S . Jenison St. also made application for an electrical permit to install a 150 amp service. The Board again viewed all plans and prints for code compliance. A motion was made by Mr. Peters and seconded by Mr. Morris, motion carried. OLD BUSINESS The Electrical Board discussed some of the City' s general business ( i . e. the move by the Building Office) . NEW BUSINESS No new business . However, we are planning to have any and all meetings for the remaining part of the calendar year. NEW BUSINESS: The Electrical Board had much discussion on the coming years' activities; for example, the grace period for registration of the 1993 electrical licenses and the proposed action on the permit schedule.
