The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved on a notion from Mr. Morris, supported by Mr. Peters. Motion carried. HOMEOWNER PERMITS: None OLD BUSINESS: None NEW BUSINESS: The Board discussed the matter of issuing permits to licensed fire alarm installers, communication installers and low voltage equipment installers. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved on a motion by Mr. Lutz, supported by Mr. Todd. Motion carried. HOMEOWNER PERMITS: Mr. Jack Roberts of 6271 Coulson Avenue made application for an electrical permit to install 100 amp service at the above address. The Board thoroughly examined all plans/sketchs for code compiance. A motion was made by Mr. Lutz, supported by Mr. Smiley, to approve the permit. Motion carried. Mrs. Cheryl MacVicar of 2607 Montego made application for an electrical permit to install 150 amp service at the above address. The Board examined all documents/plans for code compliance. A motion was made by Mr. Todd, supported by Mr. Smiley, to approve the permit. Motion carried. Mr. Antonia Garcia of 5420 S. M.L.K. Blvd./Logan Street made application for an electrical permit to install 100 amp service at the above address. The Board again reviewed all documents/plans for code compliance. A motion was made by Mr. Peters, supported by Mr. Lutz, to approve the permit. Motion carried. OLD BUSINESS: The Board thoroughly examined all proposed changes for the 1993 N.E.C. , examining technical and administrative rules and how they affect the City of Lansing, Building Safety Division and its operation. The Board did, however, approve the 1993 edition of the National Electrical Code with amendments as is, and made a recommendation that the Code be adopted by the City of Lansing to become effective January 1 , 1993. NEW BUSINESS: The Board discussed the new computer system for issuing permits. It was also brought to the attention of the Members that the next meeting would be changed to November 24, 1992. The Board thoroughly examined submitted sketchs/plans for proper code compliance. On a motion by Mr. Smiley, supported by Mr. Lutz the permit was approved. Motion carried unanimously. Mr. Lutz made a motion for approval, supported by Mr. Peters . Motion approved unanimously. Mr. Smiley made a motion for approval, supported by Mr. Peters. Motion approved unanimously. The Board examined all plans and sketches for code compliance. The permit was issued on a motion by Mr. Peters, supported by Mr. Morris. Motion carried unanimously. William Law of 3413 W. Michigan Avenue made application to install a new electrical service at the above address. The Board examined all plans and documents and found that Mr. Law was not eligible because of non-residence status, therefore, the permit was not issued. OLD BUSINESS: None NEW BUSINESS: The Board discussed at length a matter concerning the Board of Water and Light starting into the contracting business. There was discussion on the possible effect this would have on private enterprise as well as on city government and/or policy. This Bill has been signed into law by the Governor and is certain to effect the Electrical, Plumbing and Heating trades as well as Code Compliance for the City of Lansing. Many thanks were expressed to Mr. Battley for his dedicated service to the Electrical Board. NEW BUSINESS: There was some discussion regarding new products on the market, one in particular is a portable smoke detector manufactured by Generation II. It has not been determined whether the product meets code standards. The Board Members decided that more evaluation of the product is needed before approving it.
