HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001 Minutes Memorial Review Board Meeting of January 10, 2001 Minutes Attending: William Hubbell, Chair; Bonnie Bennett, Maria Enriquez, Lee June, Gil Williams. 1. The meeting was called to order at 5:40 P.M. 2. The Board unanimously elected William Hubbell as Chairperson and Maria Enriquez as Vice-Chairperson for the year 2001. 3. The Minutes for December, 2000 were approved as submitted. 4. Updates: A. David Wiener explained that the suggested names for the City County Consolidated Court Facility were shared with the City's representative to the Facility Authority. The Authority will make a decision on a name probably at its April meeting in time for a June opening of the Facility. They agree with the suggestion of having a "generic" name for the Facility. B. David Wiener contacted the Public Service Department regarding the newspaper machines and bench next to the Veteran's Plaque on the Michigan Avenue bridge. The Director of the Department said that he had made arrangements to have them removed from the bridge and the plaque cleaned in the spring. C. Maria Enriquez gave an update on both the Cesar Chavez Memorial and the Quinto Sol projects. Both are still under consideration by both the Cesar Chavez Commission and the Quinto Sol Project Committee. Plans are being made for a celebration of the Quinto Sol Mural at the opening of the new Ramon's Restaurant. A bigger celebration of the history of Hispanics in the Lansing community is also being planned for a later date. D. Bonnie Bennett reported that the Friends of Comstock Park are raising funds to purchase a plaque in honor of Jane Mannix that will be placed on the Comstock Park Pavilion. 5. Meeting called to order by Chairperson Hubbell at 5:35 P.M. 2. June moved and Enriquez seconded approval of minutes. They were approved. 3. Bonnie Bennett gave a report on the Jane Mannix memorial and the commemoration. She showed pictures from the event. All were pleased and impressed with the memorial and its positive effect on the family and neighborhood. 4. There was no report on the Cesar Chavez memorial process. 5. Enriquez moved and Bennett seconded support for the revised ordinance. The ordinance was approved unanimously and sent on the City Council with a recommendation for passage. 6. The schedule for the year 2002 was approved. We will continue to meet the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 P.M. unless there are no agenda items. 7. The meeting was adjourned at 5:55 P.M. These are enclosed for your files. I have also notified Council that we are done with the MRB ordinance and that they may proceed with it at their discretion. The Meeting was called to Order at 5.40 PM The Minutes from the January 10`h minutes were amended to add that the Friends of Comstock park are raising funds to place a plaque in honor of Jane Mannix At the Comstock Park Pavilion. Enriquez moved and Bennett seconded to approve as amended- There was discussion of proposed names for the City Courts Consolidated Courts facility. Several names were added to the list . The board had a ballot vote. The three top names were Hall of Justice, Local Judicial Building, and Veterans Memorial Court Building. Weiner will send a letter to City Council providing them with the recommendations of the Board. Updates. A. Weiner reported that the newspaper boxes and bench were removed from the Michigan Avenue Bridge and that the Memorial Plaque will be cleaned in the spring. The Public service Department made these arrangements. B. Enriquez reports that a resolution has been introduced in the State legislature to name March 31 as Caesar Chavez day. Also the City passed a resolution in honor of Caesar Chavez which will be presented at its annual dinner. C. Quinto Sol project nothing new to report D.
