This action does not apply to any addresses that may be in the Lansing Township section of Main Street (between Lansing Road and Clare Street/Olds Avenue). On January, 6, 2011 all parcels along Main Street in the city of Lansing were notified of the name change and alerted that they had one year to change the street name on all correspondence addressed to a Main Street address. The Public Service Department maintains the street name signs in the city, and will begin changing the street name signs at the 30 locations affected by this name change in February, 2011 . Transportation Engineer RESOLUTION #2010-314 BY COMMITTEE ON GENERAL SERVICES RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LANSING WHEREAS, the Memorial Review Board received an application from Ammahad Shekarakki requesting authorization for the establishment of a permanent memorial street name change from Main Street to Malcolm X Street; and WHEREAS, the Memorial Review Board made a recommendation to the Committee on General Services to approve the request for the street name change from Main Street to Malcolm X Street; and WHEREAS, the Lansing City Clerk did a notification for a Public Hearing by prescribed by the ordinance; and WHEREAS, in accordance to Chapter 1034.90 of the Code of Ordinances, a public hearing was held on August 23, 2010 in consideration of the memorial proposal to rename Main Street to Malcolm X Street; and WHEREAS, Committee of General Services received information from the U. S. Postal Office that the transition period established by the Post Office would be one year from the date of notification to the their offices. The time could be extended if determined necessary; and WHEREAS, the Transportation Division for the City of Lansing stated the approximate timeline to change signage would be two to three months with the desire to coordinate activities with MDOT; and WHEREAS, the cost for the replacement of signage for the City of Lansing would be approximately $2,000; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that transition period for the renaming will be one year from the notification to the U. S. Post Office in Lansing, Michigan. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Lansing City Council approves the establishment of a permanent memorial street name change from Main Street to Malcolm X Street.
