Dear Postmaster:
On September 13, 2010, the Lansing City Council approved changing the name of Main
Street in the city of Lansing to Malcolm X Street (resolution attached). This action does
not apply to any addresses that may be in the Lansing Township section of Main Street
(between Lansing Road and Clare Street/Olds Avenue). On January, 6, 2011 all
parcels along Main Street in the city of Lansing were notified of the name change and
alerted that they had one year to change the street name on all correspondence
addressed to a Main Street address.
The Public Service Department maintains the street name signs in the city, and will
begin changing the street name signs at the 30 locations affected by this name change
in February, 2011 . This work is expected to be completed by early March, 2011.
If you have questions regarding this issue, please feel to contact me at 483-4248.
Sincerely,
Andrew K. Kilpatrick, P.E.
Transportation Engineer
