Foster Ave., Room 211 Lansing, MI 48910 Members Present: Yvette Collins, Scott Gillespie, Joan Nelson, Laurie Baumer, Elaine Barr, Jon Lum Mayoral Designee: Members Absent: Facilitator Present: Alex Watkins (LEDC) Public Present: Recorded by: Yvette Collins Call to Order/Roll call Chair Lum welcomed everyone and called the MACIA Board of Directors meeting to order at 8:37 a.m. Approval of the Amended May 23, 2024, MACIA Meeting Minutes -Action MOTION: Gillespie moved to approve the Amended May MACIA Meeting Minutes to correct the spelling of Tim Daman's name. Motion seconded by Nelson. YEAS: Unanimous. Motion carried. Approval of the FY2023/FY2024 MACIA Budget—Action MOTION: Collins moved to approve the FY2023/2024 Budget and establishing the FY 2025 Budget. Seconded by Gillespie. YEAS: Unanimous. Motion carried. Block 2000 Facade Update Watkins and Gillespie provided an update. The current cost is about $750,000. The board discussed possible ways to close the funding gap and reduce the overall cost. Gillespie shared that he had a masonry contractor out and they walked the block, and he thinks there are savings that can be made. Gillespie asked how much we gave to the project so far - $250,000 (with the ARPA funding) $50,000 capture + ARPA $100,000 + City to the CIAs 1 $100,000. The Community Foundation allocation is $150,000. Gillespie says we have a $400,000 gap. Some questions raised by MACW Can we fill it? How much can we add? How much can the business owners put in? The discussion centered around MACIA's needing to work with the city fo, desife what are structural vs. aesthetic improvements, and statelmenlling to invest in.ts about the infrastructure pie elieves of the it would be helpful if the city could make definitive buildings. Then at the next meeting, MACIA can make some decisions. Other Business Lum provided a progress report on dotheavenue.com from Creative Canopy. The progress report from Jennifer McKinstry for the month: - Business cards ordered - Email account setup - Member login page created - Blog designed and first post made - Guerrilla marketing ordered (large stickers with QR codes) - Setup a SWAG shop with t-shirts, etc. - Sent a uniform in to print- so that I can wear our brand when I meet business owners - Researched neighborhood sign toppers There was discussion about using Jennifer to reach out to the businesses to see if she can help with wayfinding signs to drive businesses to the Avenue during construction. MACIA would like to have Jen join the next meeting and Gillespie asked if there is way to get it done before the next meeting. It was suggested that MACIA will need to vote on it by the next meeting to get a quick design created and have the signs done within a week. Seconded by Barr. YEAS: Unanimous. Motion carried. Approval to add wayfinding signs on Saginaw and Kalamazoo Streets to direct vehicles to Michigan Avenue businesses to avoid construction —Action ve Canopy to design minimally MOTION: Saagi moved to approve aw and Kalamaz o not to l exceed $3,000.00.
