Block 2000 Facade Update
Watkins and Gillespie provided an update. The current cost is about $750,000. The board
discussed possible ways to close the funding gap and reduce the overall cost.
Gillespie shared that he had a masonry contractor out and they walked the block, and he thinks
there are savings that can be made. Gillespie asked how much we gave to the project so far -
$250,000 (with the ARPA funding) $50,000 capture + ARPA $100,000 + City to the CIAs
1
$100,000. The Community Foundation allocation is $150,000. Gillespie says we have a $400,000
gap.
Some questions raised by MACW
Can we fill it?
How much can we add?
How much can the business owners put in?
The discussion centered around MACIA's needing to work with the city fo, desife what are
structural vs. aesthetic improvements, and
statelmenlling to invest in.ts about the infrastructure pie elieves
of the
it would be helpful if the city could make definitive
buildings. Then at the next meeting, MACIA can make some decisions.
Other Business
Lum provided a progress report on dotheavenue.com from Creative Canopy. The progress report
from Jennifer McKinstry for the month:
- Business cards ordered
- Email account setup
- Member login page created
- Blog designed and first post made
- Guerrilla marketing ordered (large stickers with QR codes)
- Setup a SWAG shop with t-shirts, etc.
- Sent a uniform in to print- so that I can wear our brand when I meet business owners
- Researched neighborhood sign toppers
There was discussion about using Jennifer to reach out to the businesses to see if she can help
with wayfinding signs to drive businesses to the Avenue during construction. MACIA would like to
have Jen join the next meeting and Gillespie asked if there is way to get it done before the next
meeting. It was suggested that MACIA will need to vote on it by the next meeting to get a quick
design created and have the signs done within a week. There was discussion regarding having
