Michigan Ave. Present: Commissioners Adams Simon, Anderson, Bauer, Boyd, Dowd, Jeffries, Lopez, Qawwee, Washington Absent: none Staff Present: City Clerk Swope, Deputy Clerk Drever Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chair Jeffries at 6:30 PM. Roll Call Clerk Swope called the roll of the Commission. A quorum was present. Adopt the Agenda Moved by Commissioner Qawwee to adopt the agenda as presented. Motion Carried. Approval of Minutes A. Moved by Vice Chair Adams Simon to approve the August 27, 2024, minutes as presented. Motion Carried. B. Moved by Commissioner Qawwee to approve the August 28, 2024, minutes as presented. Motion Carried. C. Moved by Vice Chair Adams Simon to approve the September 3, 2024, minutes as presented. Motion Carried. Public Comment Kyle Richard Spoke about adding an ethical investment clause to the City Charter. Mick Teti-Beaudin spoke about adding an ethical investment clause to the City Charter. Anna Martinez-Hume spoke about adding an ethical investment clause to the City Charter. Dominik Finch spoke about adding an ethical investment clause to the City Charter. Farah Huq spoke about adding an ethical investment clause to the City Charter. Laura Spitzfaden spoke about adding an ethical investment clause to the City Charter. Officer Reports Chair Chair Jeffries thanked the hosts of the listening sessions: Churchill Downs Neighborhood Association, Westside Neighborhood Association, Eastside Neighborhood Organization, and Unitarian Universalist Church and thanked the League of Women Voters Lansing. Vice-Chair Vice Chair Adams Simon thanked CATA for their support for the public meetings. Clerk No report. New Business A. Article 7 Overview The Commissioners discussed Article 7 of the City Charter. B. Article 8 Overview The Commissioners discussed Article 8 of the City Charter. Public Comment No comments were made. Commissioner Remarks The Commission discussed decision-making processes for the future and the public’s call for an ethical investment clause. Commissioner Boyd suggested changing instances of the word “marijuana” to “cannabis” Commissioner Lopez spoke about past ethical clauses in the City’s code. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned by Chair Jeffries at 7:21 PM.
