Foster Community Center I.ADDITIONS/DELETIONS TO THE AGENDA II.BOARD MEETING MINUTES A.January 10, 2024 Scramlin moved to accept the minutes, Walters Seconded. Passed by Unanimous vote III.NEW BUSINESS A. Michigan Covid Memorial Cheryl Garza gave a presentation on the proposed memorial. The goal is to start a memorial to honor those who lost their lives during the COVID 19 Pandemic. The memorial is a self funded and the group that is proposing the memorial has received donations and has hosted fundraisers. The memorial will be made out of steel and will include an etching of a quote by George Eliot “Our dead are never dead to us until we have forgotten them”. The memorial will be roughly 6’ by 6’. The proposal included 2 benches planned on either side. Wentworth Park was discussed as a possible location. A motion was made by Scramlin and seconded by Gilmore to recommend that this memorial be located in a park with final approval be made by the Parks Department. Passed by Unanimous Vote. B. Park Board List Serve email – Discussion about our email. C. MNRTF Grant – Moores River Dr. Dock $400,000 with 26%+ match. We would be using grant match funding from 2025. Michigan Natural Resource Trust Fund. A motion to support the application for this grant was made by Walters and Seconded by Lenhard. Passed by Unanimous Vote. IV.OLD BUSINESS A. Board Annual Report Dombrowski and Francisco will work on crafting this. B. CIP Projects FY25 Walters made a motion to forward our CIP Project recommendations, the motion was seconded by Scramlin. Passed by unanimous vote. The recommendations for the CIP Projects are: Grant Match Money $600,000 City-wide Repair and Maintenance $300,000 Consultant Costs 5-Year Plan $60,000 Playground Installation and Renovation $550,000 Board Grant Match Fund $33,000 Kids Camp Staff and Lifeguard Fund $75,000 Replanting Trees $75,000 Wentworth Park $150,000 Bancroft Electronic Gate $31,000 Reutter Fountain $100,000 C. Forager Park – The parks department is not aware of any ongoing discussion with Jeremy Worman and the Friends of Moores Park. The Lansing Parks Board would like to clarify that there is not currently a partnership formed between the organization ‘Lansing Forager Park & Trail’ and the Lansing Parks Board. V.UPDATES A. Master Plan due 2/1/25 – Will be getting a bid for consultants B. Parks Millage Renewal – Ballot August 2025 C. Fenner /Sycamore Disc Golf Meeting 2/20 6p.m. at Fenner Nature Center D. Moores Park Pool – Selecting the vendor. E. Frances Park Rededication – The Roses are infected with Rosetta Disease. Mitigation of the disease is ongoing. F. Daddy-Daughter dance. Did not get the grant for the Lett’s Community Center for this event VI.CORRESPONDENCE VII.INFORMATION VIII. REMARKS BY BOARD MEMBERS Mike Dombrowski will be meeting with the Lansing Parks Foundation. IX. STATEMENTS OF CITIZENS Don Dean expressed his appreciation and asked to have the department look into leveling the pathway in Bankroft and adding a railing at the Oak St entrance and adding a sign at the entrance of North St. Northwest corner of Indiana St at Porter Park there is suspected Japanese knotweed Kim Elenwood asked to consider how much brush is accumulating in the parks. 9:25 meeting closed.
