HomeMy WebLinkAboutPark Board May MinutesPARK BOARD MEETING MINUTES FOSTER COMMUNITY CENTER WEDNESDAY, MAY 8, 2024 BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Mike Dombrowski, Nate Scramlin, Isaac Francisco, Joan Lenhard, Tirstan Walters, Ravynne Gilmore CALL TO ORDER: 6:35 P.M. Foster Community Center I.ADDITIONS/DELETIONS TO THE AGENDA II.BOARD MEETING MINUTES A.March 13, 2024 Lenhard approved Walters Seconded, passed unanimously B.April 10, 2024 Lenhard approved Walters Seconded, passed unanimously III.NEW BUSINESS A. Sky Quilt (Ranney) Lenhard made a motion to accept the project, Walters seconded. Passed unanimously. B. Park Board Grant Program Guidelines- Reviewed proposed guidelines and made amendments. Lenhard Made a motion to accept the grant application as amended, Walters Seconded. Passed Unanimously. C. Art in Park Application – Revised – Scramlin moved, Francisco seconded to accept the revisions to application for Public Art D. Moores Park Geoph Espen from Art Interactive. Art Interactive is a non-profit that helps facilitate creative experiences. Their goals is to encourage imagination, innovation, and self expression. They have done backpack and art supplies drives for local children and have done a blanket drive in partnership with another non-profit. They will be hosting an event on May 23rd called Flower Moon at Moores Park. IV.OLD BUSINESS A. Playgrounds: Francisco, Dombrowski and Walters visited St Joseph, Ferris, Wilson, and Georgetown to look at the condition of the playgrounds. The board will be seeking feedback from neighborhood and other user groups to prepare suggestions for the department for renovation designs. A new playground is being proposed near Fenner Nature Preschool. V.UPDATES A. Master Plan due 2/1/25 – Kickoff meeting scheduled with Spicer Group B. Parks Millage Renewal – Ballot August 2025 C. Budget Presentation April 15 D. Fenner Disc Golf – Disc Golf course design was presented to the board by the Director E. Moores Pool Renovation – Interior renovation is now started, EGLE Permits have been attained, still working on some other building permits. F. Fulton Overlook- Construction will begin soon, there is attention being paid to erosion issues in the area. G. Tree Planting – Trees are going out for planting H. Paving (Gier) – Gier is paved, Davis is in process. I.Fenner Path – Still need final bids J.Ranney and Rotary Park Shade Sails – Vendor selected for Ranney. A third shade sail has broken at Rotary. K. Ferris Park Beacon Field – Press conference scheduled with Lansing Common on Friday Lansing 10th at 11:30 AM. May 14th there is a fundraiser at Jackson Park to support Strikeout Baseball. VI.CORRESPONDENCE A. Don Dean – basketball rim/net replacement at Porter Park B. Laura Nieusma- In regards to Park Board Minutes VII.INFORMATION A. VIII. REMARKS BY BOARD MEMBERS Isaac Francisco has filed to run for office for the Eaton County Board of Commissioners District 8. Tirstan Walters asked on behalf of the Allen Neighborhood Center to check on the water Fountain at Hunter Park. Joan Lenhard has been volunteering at Scott and Francis Park in the garden. Mike Dombrowski Bike and Seek will start at the Lansing Shuffle on June 1st at 2PM IX. STATEMENTS OF CITIZENS Don Dean will be hosting a board game night and spoke about bathroom access. Jeff Handey talked about the application process for an event in the park. Meeting closed at 8:32PM
