Attendance: Amber Denney, Emily Sorroche, Kendall O’Connor, Prince Jerold Solace, Randy Watkins
Absence: Florensio Hernandez, Muhammad Qawwee II, Raquel Sparkman
Staff: Guadalupe Ayala, Kimberly A. Coleman, Elizabeth O’Leary, Willard Walker
Others: Mayor Andy Schor, Amany William (OCA), Teresa Bingman (Consultant), Ashley Green (Consultant, The
Advocacy Group), Tina Alonzo (Consultant, The Advocacy Group)
The meeting was called to order at 12:00 p.m. by Guadalupe Ayala.
G. Ayala conducted a roll call. A quorum was established. Board Members introduced themselves during roll call.
Staff and Others present also introduced themselves. The Advocacy Group was introduced as the consultants that will
be supporting the DEI Advisory Board with its structure, initial meetings, and trainings.
Mayor Schor welcomed the Board Members and discussed his expectations for the DEI Advisory Board.
Training:
A. Williams conducted a training on the Open Meetings Act and Public Comment.
Public Comment: None
Presentations:
T. Alonzo presented on the MRJEA Report Structure and the DEI Advisory Board’s Role.
Next Steps:
A. Green presented on the Advisory Board Meeting’s attendance, cadence, decorum, and proposed trainings. Board
Members were asked to email G. Ayala with their availability by June 16, 2023, to set meeting cadence and
establish a day for a half-day retreat in August.
A. Green reported that election of officers and approval of Rules of Procedure will be conducted at the next meeting
in July. Interest in officer positions and edits to the Rules of Procedure should be emailed to G. Ayala by June
16, 2023.
A. Green reminded Board Members to watch the mandatory Ethics Training video. All present confirmed they had
watched the video before this meeting.
Announcements:
G. Ayala reminded Board Members of the Celebration of Diversity event, where Board Members will be presented,
and Departments will give updates with MRJEA’s internal recommended actions. The event will be on June 22, 2023,
at 4:30pm in the City Hall Lobby,
R. Watkins and T. Alonzo advised Board Members of different Juneteenth events in the area happening within the
month.
