Washington Sq., Lansing, MI 48933 MINUTES Members Present: Shelley Davis-Boyd, Calvin Jones, Brian McGrain, Catherine Rathbun, Jordan Sutton Members Absent: Andrea Binoniemi, Blake Johnson, Dr. Alane Laws-Barker, Michael McKissic Staff Present: Karl Dorshimer, Kris Klein, Aurelius Christian (Virtual), Brandy Nelson Guests: Beth Chapman (CSH), Joe Borgstrom (Place + Main) Call to Order/Roll Call Vice Chair Davis-Boyd called the Lansing Economic Development Corporation meeting to order at 8:35 AM. Klein took rollcall attendance. Approval of LEDC Board Meeting Minutes – Friday, July 8, 2022 (ACTION) MOTION: Jones moved to approve the LEDC meeting minutes from the Friday, July 08, 2022 Board of Directors meeting, as presented. Motion seconded by Rathbun. YEAS: Unanimous, motion carried. The Lansing Economic Development Corporation’s mission is to create quality jobs, diversify the local economy and improve overall quality of life by attracting, expanding and retaining business and industry in the City of Lansing. LEDC Board of Directors Meeting: Friday, August 5, 2022 Meeting Minutes Page 2 of 2 Update on Financials Chapman from CSH provided an update on financials of EDC June financial statements of general business funds. Prepaid rent and health insurance now included on financials. Equipment purchases will be reclassed into assets. Transition Update Dorshimer provided an update on transition to the new EDC location. LEDC is leasing four suites with access to common areas and two board rooms. Dorshimer welcomed new staff member, Brandy Nelson, Office and Finance Manager. He also announced that new staff member, Simon Vehrgese will begin on August 8 th. Approval of Cafeteria Plan – Employee Medical Benefits (ACTION) MOTION: Jones moved to approve the Cafeteria Plan, as presented. Motion seconded by Rathbun. YEAS: Unanimous, motion carried. Approval of FY 2023 City of Lansing Façade Program Contract (ACTION) Klein explained the continuation of the successful program and that dollars are now available from the City of Lansing. MOTION: McGrain moved to approve the Façade Program Contract as presented. Motion seconded by Rathbun. YEAS: Unanimous, motion carried. LEED Program Update Christian provided an update on the LEED program. The ARPA budget was passed on July 25 by the City Council. Programs will be managed by the LEDC team. An advisory committee of four is needed. Jones expressed interest and encouraged board members to participate, as it is a great opportunity for Board engagement. Davis-Boyd, and Rathbun also volunteered to be advisory members. Proposal received and presented by Place + Main, Joe Borgstrom. Project would begin in October and would be eight months long. Total project cost would be $102,130. Owners of Logan Square will be asked to invest $21,000. MEDC will contribute $20,000. $10,000 from the CIA (ARPA Funds). The remaining funds would come from LBRA. Discussion took place. Davis-Boyd inquired about existing businesses. It was explained that they would not be displaced. Klein recommended a resolution for action at the September board meeting. Open Forum for LEDC Board Members Jones would like there to be future discussion regarding the electrification of Lansing, i.e. charging stations for electric vehicles. Dorshimer noted that some discussion has occurred with current projects. Klein mentioned there has been encouragement provided to those involved in infrastructure to consider the future implementation of charging stations. Other Business None. Public Comment None.
