Mayor Saginaw Street Corridor Improvement Authority Board of Directors Meeting Thursday, May 19, 2022- 3:00 PM LEAP Office 1000 S Washington Ave #201 Lansing, MI 48910 Members Present: Jonathon Lukco, Diane Sanborn, Jim Houthoofd, Benjamin Brewer, Jessica Yorko, John Shaski Members Absent: Tiffany Dowling (excused) Facilitator Present: Kambriana Crank (LEAP) Guests: Derek Bradswell (EV Charging Presenter) Public: Kris Klein (LEDC/LEAP) Recorded by: Kambriana Crank Welcome/Call to Order Chair Lukco welcomed everyone and called the SSCIA monthly meeting to order at 3:08 p.m. Rollcall was called by Crank and recorded for public record. Approval of SSCIA April Meeting Minutes MOTION: Shaski moved to approve the SSCIA Meeting Minutes from the April, 2022 meeting with the proposed changes. Motion seconded by Sanborn. YEAS: Unanimous. Motion carried. LEDC Transition Update Crank updated the Saginaw Street CIA on the transition of the Lansing Economic Development Corporation. The staff transition will not have a direct impact on the SSCIA. Neighborhood Grant Update Yorko has been in contact about the project with Capital Area Housing Partnership.The focus is to now try to get this project done sometime this summer. Sanborn asked about renderings which Yorko has already done measurements and sketches for the landscaping project. Shaski added that we should do community involvement projects in the spring and in the fall.Sanborn suggested that the SSCIA can apply for the Neighborhoods in Bloom grant. Houthoofd added that we should order the items sooner rather than later due to the demand. There is also quantity demand and some of the items we want may not be available until July. Yorko will follow up on the cost needed for the flower bed. Amend Budget for FY 2021/2022- ACTION MOTION: Yorko moved to amend the 2021/2022 fiscal year budget for the Saginaw Street CIA. Motion seconded by Shaki. 5 YEAS: Unanimous. Motion carried. Adopt Proposed Budget for FY 2022/2023- ACTION MOTION: Yorko moved to approve the proposed 2022/2023 fiscal year budget for the Saginaw Street CIA. Motion seconded by Shaki. YEAS: Unanimous. Motion carried. 2022 SSCIA Vision/Project Matrix Events : • Yorko mentioned the West Side Summer Fest and the success it has brought to the community in years past.The parking lot behind Toolan's was used. This was a collaboration effort amongst many stakeholders within the community. In the past, this was planned out nine months before the event took place, the Artist Umbrella was a recommendation by Yorko to get this started again. They are meeting in 3 weeks to talk about the potential event. • Sanborn added that Durant Park is having events at some point this summer. Board members agreed to ensure that events do not overlap. Other. Lukco shared with board members that there is an updated map for the traffic study that he will share with the rest of the board. Brewer added that there was some movement at one of the pubs on the corridor. Corridor Updates EV Charging Station Presentation Derek Bradswell shared about the interest in implementing EV charging stations in certain areas of the corridor.They are interested in creating a major hub for charging stations which would include about 10 at this point. Car washing facilities and additional aspects would be implemented in this space. Yorko added that there would be a need for lighting which Bradswell has incorporated into the plan.Yorko also added the concern for folks in the area not affording an EV to utilize;this would be marketed for people outside of the neighborhood. Brewer asked about a study to show the the demand in this area for the charging stations which Bradswell agreed a study would be helpful. Other Business Consumer Energy Foundation has a 2022 Prosperity Award grant that the City is attempting to apply for that would help Saginaw and improve the Commercial area in that space.
