2022 SSCIA Vision/Matrix Map
Chair Lukco facilitated the conversation discussing the 2022 SSCIA project vision map. Chair
Lukco also made the board aware of Mayor Schor's budget proposal which was presented to
council early April which would give SSCIA$100,000. Chair Lukco suggested having an advisory
board or sub-committee to help facilitate the potential requirements that will come along with
the $100,000 the CIA will receive. Chair Lukco suggested having an advisory board or sub-
committee to help facilitate the potential requirements that will come along with the $100,000
the CIA will receive. Board members suggested helping fill the gap with Durant Park, which
discussion took place.
Neighborhood grant- Yorko gave an update on the landscaping project and the difficulty in
getting quotes. Capital Area Housing Partnership has demonstration projects and one of them
was in the location of focus.SSCIA could partner on the demonstration project.Yorko sent three
estimates of plants, wood chips, soil, and delivery. May 215t is the day that they flagged to build
this border for the sculpture and planting flowers along Saginaw for a Spring Clean Up. They
have additional meetings scheduled to make sure the project is coming along. Retaining wall
blocks could be used to build the short wall around the sculpture to allow for a cleaner edge
when the grass is mowed.
Design- Yorko also suggested additional ways to incorporate art along the corridor, specifically
the concrete walk. Houthoofd asked about pricing for the local art, which Yorko suggested that
the art could cost roughly $75,000. Houthoofd also suggested that portions of the art project
could be completed in sections. Houthoofd suggested to walk the corridor as a group which
Lukco also agreed with. Yorko added to have the City to come and sweep the corridor. Crank
will check with the City to see how to put in a suggestion for this.
Cleaning the Rite Aid is another suggestion or improving their sign to make the fapade look
better. Dowling suggested writing a letter on behalf of the SSCIA to ask the business to improve
their fagade.
Community Events- July 5th is Elderly Instruments 50th and July 315t there is a Car Show with the
Museum and the 100th year celebration of the park amongst other events occurring that day.
Dowling suggested adding something to the magazine for the celebration.
Taxing Units Updates
Christiansen from CATA encourages more bus shelters to be included along the corridor. Yorko
and Sanborn suggested more bus shelters near LCC and Trinity Lutheran. Chair Lukco noted
there was a list/study that highlighted the areas of needs (eastbound on Saginaw next to Center
Street). Christiansen added that they can also look at ones that are not directly on Saginaw but
would be of benefit to those that are on the corridor. It takes approximately three months from
the time of decision making to implementation of a bus shelter.
