The structure consists of two galvanized steel corrugated steel plate
arched pipes. It appears to have been originally consisted as a single
pipe with a second pipe added on the south side at a later date. The
construction dates are unknown. The culvert is in fair condition.
CULVERT PIPES
The south pipe has a concrete slab the full length of the pipe. The concrete floor and the visible portions
of the culvert pipe are in good condition with only minor rust and some ponding.
The north pipe has corrosion on both sides along the waterline which varies from moderate to heavy.
There are numerous small rust holes which are apparently due to dents during installation, particularly
at the west end. There is also light to moderate rust along the top bolted plate connections. The culvert
floor appears to have slightly buckled upward at mid‐length of the culvert.
The north pipe has four bulkheaded pipe penetrations on the south side and one on the north side.
There is one active concrete pipe penetration on the north side. Expanded foam insulation was used to
stop water and dirt infiltration at some of the bulkheads. At the largest bulkhead near the east end, the
plate over the top of the pipe is heavily corroded with rust holes with coarse aggregate coming through
the holes. The culvert plates are also bowed inward both top and bottom of the pipe.
HEADWALLS
The west concrete headwall has some honeycombing and spalling at the base of the pilaster between
the culvert pipes. There is some leaching map cracking on the north side of the south pipe. The east
headwall has some chipping around the top of the north pipe and a crack over the north pipe. There is a
concrete pipe penetrating the southeast wingwall.
CHANNEL
There are concrete aprons at both ends with concrete filled mats beyond on the east end. The west
apron has several large cracks between the pipes. The slopes have concrete filled mats and are heavily
vegetated. The west channel is partially blocked by earth and brush at the south pipe.
ROAD SURFACE
The road surface consists of bituminous pavement with concrete curb and gutter. The road surface has
extensive heavy map cracking throughout with some asphalt patching. The east curb and gutter on the
north side of the north culvert pipe has settled 4”. There is no guardrail at the culvert.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Replace settled curb in northeast quadrant.
Long‐term: Replace the culvert.
