The structure is a three span concrete box beam bridge constructed in
2007. The bridge is in generally very good condition.
DECK AND SUPERSTRUCTURE
The superstructure consists of precast concrete box beams (21” deep in the south and middle spans, 12”
deep in the north span) with a six‐inch concrete deck. The deck has hairline longitudinal cracking
corresponding to the box beam joints. The expansion joints over the piers are filled with silt or grit.
There is a sidewalk on the west side of the bridge only. There is some very minor scuffing and chipping
along the sidewalk curb line. The railings are four‐tube galvanized steel on the west side and two‐tube
galvanized steel on a concrete brush block on the east side. The brush block has map cracking on the
curb line. There is map cracking on the concrete end blocks in all quadrants.
The concrete box beams have no visible deficiencies. The wood boards that were used to form the box
beam joints are still in place on top of the abutments.
SUBSTRUCTURES
The south abutment has limestone rip rap on the upper half of the slope while the lower half is bare
earth. The north abutment has map cracking on the face of both returnwalls. The north abutment is
protected by a timber retaining wall and an asphalt paved pedestrian path.
The piers consist of concrete filled, galvanized steel pipe piles with a cast‐in‐place concrete cap. There is
a minor shallow spall on the south face of the south pier cap. The pipe piles have very light surface
discoloration at the waterline.
APPROACHES
There is concrete approach slab at both ends of the bridge with bituminous paving beyond. There is a
longitudinal crack down the center of the north approach slab. The sidewalk in the southwest quadrant
has settled 3/4".
There is concrete paving between the back of curb/sidewalk and the returnwalls in the northeast and
northwest quadrants. This pavement was placed without any expansion material around the approach
guardrail posts. The paving in the northeast quadrant has surface scaling. There are weeds growing in
the joints between the paving and the returnwall at both quadrants.
There are dents at the northwest approach guardrail ending and in the southeast approach guardrail.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Place additional rip rap along south slope.
Periodically clean out expansion joints.
Apply healer‐sealer to deck.
