The Wexford Road Walkover over Jolly Road is a single‐span painted
steel truss constructed in 1968 and partially repainted in 2003. The
walkover is in poor condition.
SUPERSTRUCTURE
At the south stair, minor section loss is visible, but painted over, on the
bottom of the stringers of the lower stair run. There is also minor painted over section loss on the
members of the intermediate platform. The fencing is loose at the bottom of the north stair stringer and
on the bottom west side of the intermediate platform.
At the north stair, there is heavy corrosion and holes in the web of both stringers at the base of the
lower stair run. The north stringer has one hole at the base (1” x 2”). The south stringer four holes at the
base (2” x 5”, 3” x 5”, 3” x 5” and 1/2" x 1 1/2") that have resulted in loss of more than half of the web at
the base. The south stringer also has a small hole (1/2" x 1 1/2") in the web at the 4th step from the
bottom. The anchor plate at the bottom of the north stringer is half corroded away. The concrete
foundation curb is spalled under the north stringer anchor plate and is providing little support. There is
heavy section loss on the bottom of the middle fence post on the north stringer.
The north intermediate stair platform is framed with steel channel beam members. There is section loss
visible on all of the beams which was painted over. There are holes in the web of the east beam. The
west beam is also rusted through and was repaired with a plate. The top tread of the lower stair run was
partially corroded away and is supported with a welded plate. The column base plates are warped and
cupped.
Some of the wire ties at the bottom of the pedestrian fencing at the stairs are missing (10 total counted).
Each main span support consists of two vertical columns and two diagonal braces. There is scattered rust
on the posts and bracing members. All of the base plates have light corrosion around the edges.
At the main span truss, the east bottom chord member has scattered rust and rust holes along most of
both bottom edges over the inside westbound lane and some scattered holes along the both bottom
edges over the inside eastbound lane. It is completed corroded through along most of the east edge
over the inside westbound lane. There are rust holes at the northeast end of the 2nd bottom diagonal
brace from the south and the southwest end of the 1st bottom diagonal brace from the north. There is
rust at the welds at the top chord connections.
The underclearance sign on the east side of the truss over the westbound lanes is missing the nut on one
of the upper attachment bolts. There is a hole in the pedestrian fencing on the east side of the main
truss.

FOUNDATIONS
At the curb under the bottom of the north stair stingers, the concrete is spalled under the base plate of
the north stringer. The stair foundation pedestals have some minor cracking or scaling. The foundation
pedestals for the main span columns are in generally good condition.
There is new guardrail in front of both south and north truss foundation pedestals.
